Trump Critiques Ocasio-Cortez’s Performance at Munich Security Conference
Former President Donald Trump recently expressed his dissatisfaction with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s handling of questions at the Munich Security Conference, stating it did not reflect well on the United States.
Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York and a potential contender for the 2028 presidential race, has received criticism for some of her foreign policy remarks during various events. At one point, she seemingly paused for nearly 20 seconds when asked if U.S. troops should be deployed to protect Taiwan from a Chinese invasion. Additionally, she mistakenly claimed that Venezuela is situated on the equator.
On Air Force One, Trump commented, “I was watching AOC answer questions in Munich, and it was not a good look for the United States. I also saw Gavin Newsom doing the same, and frankly, it didn’t reflect well on us.” He continued, describing both individuals as incompetent and suggested that even though he disapproves of Hillary Clinton, she is, in his view, at least competent. “Gavin ruined California. AOC didn’t seem to grasp the questions she was asked,” he added.
Trump pointed out Ocasio-Cortez’s failure to respond effectively to crucial global matters and even local concerns regarding New York City, saying, “She had no idea how to tackle vital questions about the world.”
In response to a specific question about whether the U.S. should send troops to Taiwan if China takes action, Ocasio-Cortez stated that the aim should be to avoid any confrontation with China. Her statement highlighted a long-standing U.S. policy aimed at preventing conflict.
She also controversially stated that Venezuela is “below the equator” and expressed her criticism of the Trump administration for its stance on Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro. Her remarks pointed out that while Maduro showed anti-democratic tendencies by calling off elections, it does not justify the action of detaining a head of state merely based on his geographical location.
Trump reiterated his earlier point by saying that both AOC and Newsom were a disgrace to the country.
Responses from Ocasio-Cortez and Newsom’s offices were sought, but no comments were immediately available.
