Trump Holds Rally in Ohio Ahead of Midterm Elections
During a rally near Dayton, Ohio, President Donald Trump continued his campaign efforts for Republican candidates in the lead-up to the important midterm elections.
Speaking in Vandalia on Saturday, Trump encouraged voters to back Jon Husted, who has taken over Vice President JD Vance’s Senate seat, and also suggested they elect Vivek Ramaswamy as the new governor. He expressed support for several other Republican candidates from Ohio as well.
Throughout his speech, the president referenced his administration’s accomplishments, asserting that Americans are experiencing better incomes, lower poverty rates, and a boost in domestic manufacturing due to his trade policies.
“We achieved more in two years than any other presidency in the history of our country,” he claimed.
As the November elections draw closer, Trump stressed the significance of the midterm races.
“We are on the cusp of beating the communists, socialists, radicalized lunatics, and villains once and for all. We’re going to put them down once and for all,” he stated.
He declared that the United States would never become a communist nation and praised his supporters for helping him face numerous challenges.
Trump reiterated a commitment made earlier at the Republican Midterm Convention: if Republicans win the elections, every adult American will receive $5,000. He argued that this could only occur if Republicans dominate both chambers of Congress, citing substantial financial gains from tariffs.
“If Republicans win the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, I am going to give all adult citizens in the United States — because we’re making so much money with the tariffs and other things — $5,000 to every adult,” Trump noted.
He also warned that if Democrats were to win, it would lead to severe economic downturns reminiscent of the Great Depression.
To motivate turnout, Trump suggested that voters should pretend he was on the ballot.
“Nobody counted on the fact that Trump was going to go out and campaign for all these people. Because when I do, we win. When I run, we win,” he remarked. “So what I’m going to do is ask you to just pretend that I’m running, because if we do, and if you draw the people, you’re going to win. And we’re going to win big.”
Among the key issues he addressed were the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act, election integrity, participation of transgender athletes in women’s sports, and immigration. Trump specifically mentioned Springfield, Ohio, noting its significant Haitian immigrant population and recent Supreme Court ruling impacting their status.
In discussing immigration, he recited the song “The Snake,” emphasizing consequences for misplaced trust.
“‘I saved you,’ cried the woman. ‘And you’ve bitten me, but why? And you know your bite was poisonous and now I’m going to die,’” Trump recited. “You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in,” he added, highlighting the moral of the story.
Trump reminded the audience that Ohio voters had already rejected Husted’s Democratic opponent in the past election and took the opportunity to criticize other Democratic Senate candidates from around the country.
“The choice in this election is very simple: you can vote for the radical left Democrat to loot your wealth, raise your taxes by $5 trillion — which is the number they project — annihilate your borders, send Ohio jobs overseas, and give amnesty to 25 million illegal aliens,” he said. “Or you can defeat the Democrats and vote for more money in your pockets, bigger paychecks for your families, lower taxes, less crime, and no amnesty for illegal aliens.”
Trump expressed strong backing for Vivek Ramaswamy, who previously faced Trump in the 2024 Republican primary, as the next governor of Ohio. Ramaswamy is currently running against Democrat Amy Acton, the former director of the Ohio Department of Health.
As he concluded his remarks, Trump reaffirmed his promises to strengthen the nation.
“And together we will make America powerful again; we will make America wealthy again; we will make America healthy again; we will make America strong again; we will make America proud again; we will make America safe again; and most importantly we will Make America Great Again,” he declared.
