Trump Responds to January 6th Protest Accusations
Former President Donald Trump has criticized Democrats for alleging that he sparked the events of January 6, 2021. On Tuesday, the White House shared an article emphasizing that he had invited supporters to Washington, D.C., for a rally where he urged them to “peacefully and patriotically make their voices heard.”
The article highlighted instances from the protest that day, particularly noting how Capitol Police escalated tensions. They reportedly used tear gas and rubber bullets on demonstrators, which contributed to the chaos.
“Capitol Police aggressively fired tear gas, flash bangs, and rubber munitions into crowds of peaceful protesters, injuring many and deliberately escalating tensions,” the article mentioned. It also pointed out video evidence of officers seemingly removing barricades and even ushering attendees inside the Capitol, creating a discord between their actions and the force used against others. This inconsistency appears to have turned a peaceful protest into disorder.
Throughout that day, Trump allegedly urged his supporters to deescalate and return home.
“As events unfolded, President Trump consistently called for peace, expressing support for law enforcement and releasing a video asking supporters to ‘go home in peace’ while conveying concern for them and the ongoing election issues,” the article stated. “He maintained a message of non-violence despite the challenging circumstances.”
Trump also highlighted leaked video featuring then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, where she seemingly acknowledged her responsibility for the protest’s chaotic turn.
Moreover, he criticized the January 6th committee for incarcerating 1,500 protesters for four years simply for trespassing.
