Trump Suggests Imprisonment for Democratic Lawmakers
On Saturday, President Trump proposed that certain Democratic lawmakers who allegedly encouraged military personnel to disobey orders should face imprisonment.
This statement came after comments from lawmakers, including Senator Elissa Slotkin from Michigan. A video posted earlier in the week urged troops to ignore directives, saying not to “abandon ship.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump remarked, “The traitors who told the military to disobey my orders should be in jail now, and not roaming the fake news networks trying to explain that what they said was okay. It never happened and it never will! It’s mayhem at the highest level, and mayhem is a serious crime. There can be no other interpretation of what they said!”
Following this, he reiterated, “Many great jurists agree that the Democratic traitors who directed the military to disobey my orders as president committed a grave crime!”
In an interview after the video was shared, Stephen Miller, a senior adviser to Trump, labeled the situation a rebellion. “This is a general call by Democratic lawmakers for rebellion against the CIA and the U.S. military,” he stated.
Miller continued, noting that Democrats had been fueling violence against federal authorities over the past months. He blamed the ongoing campaign of violence on Democratic sanctuary politicians and governors siding with lawbreakers. “It spills over into juries and grand juries,” he added, mentioning that Democratic jurors are overlooking cases involving violent attackers against federal officers.
Former CIA operations officer Brian Dean Wright referred to Slotkin’s video as “propaganda,” suggesting she intentionally provoked controversy with it. He emphasized that her role as an analyst focused on evaluating the effectiveness of such operations.
Initially, Trump reacted to the footage by stating that sedition could warrant a death penalty, but the White House clarified later that there was no intention to execute these lawmakers.
