Trump criticizes GOP ‘showboats’ while promoting ‘great beautiful bill’

Trump Criticizes Libertarian Lawmaker at House GOP Conference

President Trump unleashed his frustrations regarding “Grand Standards” during a House Republican Conference meeting on Tuesday.

While at the Capitol, he specifically called out libertarian Congressman Thomas Massey from Kentucky, who had opposed procedural steps necessary to advance the Megaville initiative.

“I don’t think Thomas Massey has a good grasp on government. He’s a relic, in my opinion, and maybe it’s time for him to be voted out,” Trump remarked to reporters, shortly before joining House Republicans, while Mike Johnson, a fellow Republican from Louisiana, observed.

Before launching into his criticisms, Trump maintained that the Republican Party was showing unity, despite the drama surrounding what could be viewed as the year’s most significant legislative effort.

“This isn’t about a few holdouts. We’ve got a solid party here. Honestly, I can’t remember a time when we were this united. Sure, there might be some who don’t particularly like me or may have their own agendas, but that’s politics,” he added.

Adding to the dynamic, Trump acknowledged that Republican lawmakers would need to “make some adjustments” to the proposed bill prior to its final vote.

Mike Johnson aims to shepherd the Megaville proposal through the House by the end of the week, emphasizing his commitment to address the concerns of all 220 members in attendance.

“Honestly, I don’t think there’s anyone better suited to be Speaker of the House than Johnson,” Trump remarked.

The legislation encompasses extensions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, includes measures for no taxation on tips or overtime, and also allocates more resources for defense and border security.
