Trump Critiques London Mayor Sadiq Khan

During a meeting with British Prime Minister Kiel, President Donald Trump made some harsh remarks about London Mayor Sadiq Khan. While he mentioned he’s open to visiting London, he didn’t hold back his disapproval of how Khan manages the city.

At a press conference in Scotland, following a significant trade agreement with the European Union, Trump expressed his thoughts on the mayor. “I’m not a fan of your mayor,” he stated, responding to a question about a potential visit to London. “I think he did a terrible job… he’s a troublesome person. But I’m sure I’ll visit London,” he added.

In defense of Khan, Starmer interjected, “He’s actually my friend.”

Trump had previously referred to Khan as a “stone loser” for focusing on crime in London. Their history of conflict stretches back several years, with Khan implicitly equating Trump’s actions to those of “fascists of the 20th century.”

Khan has often highlighted Trump’s reelection campaign in 2024 as a sign that “progress is inevitable,” arguing that it’s filled with “racism and hatred.” Critics have pointed out Khan’s shortcomings in handling the surge in knife crime and gang violence among youth in the city, asserting he hasn’t adequately supported the police. Khan counters these accusations, placing blame on central government austerity measures.

Despite his recent criticisms, Trump has found time to commend British leader Nigel Farage. “You know, Nigel is my friend,” Trump said, revealing a fondness for both Farage and Starmer. He acknowledged their contrasting political views but expressed respect for both men.

Trump expressed gratitude toward Starmer, stating, “Whenever you need help, you’ve been there. We’re so grateful for it.”

Additionally, he mentioned a recent meeting with Starmer’s wife and family, saying, “I admire him a lot more than I used to. He has a perfect wife, and that’s never easy to achieve.”

The President was in Turnberry, Scotland, discussing trade issues and the ongoing situation in Gaza following the trade deal with the EU.
