President Donald Trump expressed his displeasure with longtime White House correspondent Maggie Haberman from the New York Times following her report regarding the 9/11 commemorative events.
In her article, Haberman reported that Trump chose not to attend the World Trade Center event because he wouldn’t have the chance to deliver a speech.
“She’s been falsely writing about me for years,” Trump stated, criticizing her and calling her a “stalker.” He suggested that she should return any money earned from what he termed her misleading reporting.
Trump vehemently refuted the claims made in the report, unleashing a tirade against Haberman on Truth Social, referring to her as “Maggot Hagerman,” a “Fake Reporter” from “The Failing New York Times.” He described her as someone who knows less about him than most reporters and labeled her a “SCAMMER.” Trump alleged that she fabricated a story claiming he wouldn’t attend the World Trade Center event, asserting that he preferred not to speak there.
“I never even thought of what Maggot made up,” he added. He further denounced Haberman and accused the New York Times of being aware of her dishonesty. Additionally, he threatened to pursue legal action against her and the publication for what he described as false reporting in the past regarding the Russian investigation.
In response to Trump’s comments, CNN anchor Jake Tapper came to Haberman’s defense, labeling the president’s remarks as “disgusting” and beneath the dignity of the office. He described Haberman as a remarkable journalist and an admirable person.
Haberman later addressed Trump’s criticisms during an interview on MS NOW, explaining that her team had been open with the White House about their reporting, including the part suggesting Trump did not want to attend a speech in New York. She noted that the White House didn’t challenge their reporting until a day after the piece was published, making it possible for readers to question the timing of Trump’s denial.
