Trump Critiques Massie During Kentucky Visit
HEBRON, Kentucky — During his recent trip to Kentucky, President Donald Trump harshly criticized U.S. Representative Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) while praising his main opponent, Navy SEAL veteran Ed Gullane. Trump also took a jab at the Senate for struggling with the passage of the SAVE America Act.
Speaking at Vaast Logistics in Hebron, Trump had a 10-minute discussion with Massie, who was present in the audience.
The president called Massie “the worst person ever,” arguing against the One Big Beautiful Act and the associated tax cuts he says it would bring.
“Mr. Massie has opposed tax cuts for seniors and overtime workers, and he wanted to raise taxes. He even sided with the Democrats,” Trump remarked.
He pointed out that Massie voted against border security measures and criticized his stance on welfare eligibility.
Additionally, Trump mentioned that Massie had voted with Democrats during the 42-day government shutdown in October.
“We refer to him as Rand Paul Jr. because he just votes no on everything. Although I have a bit more fondness for Rand,” Trump quipped.
In a somewhat backhanded manner, Trump remarked on Massie’s peculiarities regarding the SAVE America Act.
This act, which enjoys bipartisan support from registered voters, is centered around five main points: requiring voter ID, proof of citizenship for voter registration, eliminating universal mail-in voting while making exceptions, banning transgender surgeries for minors, and protecting women’s sports.
While Trump has urged quick legislative action, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-South Dakota) reportedly is not utilizing certain fast-track measures to push the bill through, making it dependent on 60 Senate votes and some bipartisan support.
Trump expressed his belief that approval could be secured in the House but voiced his confusion regarding the Senate’s difficulties. “How can we have a hard time with that?” he questioned the crowd.
He continued, “Massie might feel pressured to consider this one. It’s hard to imagine how he would justify a no vote on this.” He declared, “Thomas Massie is a disaster for our party.”
Afterward, he introduced Gullane, who took the opportunity to criticize Massie as well. “I look forward to representing the people of Kentucky and being a true Republican conservative aligned with the president and opposing Democrats who threaten our country,” he stated.
“Tom Massie stands up for women,” he concluded, rallying support among the crowd.
