Trump criticizes Nancy Pelosi for insider trading in Congress during speech

Trump Calls for Action Against Insider Trading

During a recent speech, former President Donald Trump strongly criticized insider trading at the Capitol, urging Congress to swiftly implement legislation to combat the issue, and took aim at Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi.

“We need to ensure that members of Congress can’t exploit insider information for personal gain,” Trump stated, appealing to both parties for support.

He expressed disbelief, remarking, “They actually supported it. I can’t believe it. Did Pelosi support this? If she were present, I seriously doubt it.” This remark came alongside criticisms of Pelosi’s financial dealings, which are often cited by those advocating for stricter controls on congressional stock trading.

The proposed Insider Trading Act, brought forward by Representative Brian Still, aims to prohibit Members of Congress, as well as their spouses and dependent children, from buying publicly traded stocks. It would also require that sales be publicly disclosed in advance, expanding upon the requirements set forth in the 2012 Stock Act.

Trump’s comments ignited discussions on social media, including remarks from Fox News contributor Guy Benson, who noted, “Pelosi’s ad-lib lol,” while columnist Josh Hammer shared a lighthearted reaction, stating, “LMAO for President Trump calling out Pelosi on insider trading.” Similarly, NewsBusters Editor-in-Chief Curtis Hock commented, “LOL, Trump is the funniest president in history, there’s no debate.”

In addition to addressing insider trading, Trump unveiled a new retirement savings initiative for workers who do not receive employer matching contributions, proposing federal support of up to $1,000 annually to help more Americans benefit from market growth.
