Trump Critiques Gayle King Amid CBS Network Changes

On Tuesday, former President Trump took to social media to express his disdain for CBS News anchor Gayle King, labeling her as lacking “talent” and “ratings.” His comments were sparked by an article discussing her uncertain future at the network, as viewer engagement with her morning show dwindles.

“Gayle King’s career is effectively over,” Trump asserted, sharing a link to the article on Truth Social.

He continued, suggesting that she should have maintained her support for him, implying she lacked the courage to do so. “She had no talent, no rating, no strength!” he added.

In response, CBS opted not to comment on the situation.

The article revealed that CBS is grappling with the future of its morning programming, particularly under a new ownership that is determined to reduce perceived left-wing bias in its content. This comes in the context of declining ratings for King’s morning show, described as an “awakening.”

A source indicated that King is part of a culture resistant to the company’s attempts to shift away from polarized reporting.

It was reported that the executive producer for “CBS Morning,” Shauna Thomas, has developed a program under King’s leadership that seems to have alienated a significant portion of the audience. Producers had allegedly resisted directives from higher-ups, leading to content that deviates from what many viewers desire.

One insider mentioned, “The audience doesn’t want to wake up to progressive and provocative themes. They want optimism and joy in the morning.” This disconnect has raised concerns over the future of the show.

As CBS’s restructuring progresses, major changes are anticipated, particularly with the merger involving Skydance, headed by CEO David Ellison. The Federal Communications Commission recently approved this $8.4 billion deal with Paramount, which is expected to be finalized shortly.

As part of gaining FCC approval, Skydance has promised to appoint an ombudsman to monitor political bias within CBS News, and plans to abandon their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies.

Trump’s remarks came shortly after he praised CBS for its decision to end Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show,” which he claims was the result of significant financial losses and a lack of talent.

In a previous post, he remarked that many assume Colbert’s show was canceled due to singular responsibility, but instead cited financial losses in the millions as a primary factor.
