Trump Critiques Congressman Massie, Who Shifts Focus to Legislation

President Donald Trump expressed harsh criticism of Congressman Thomas Massie, labeling him as “worse” than other Republicans who have attracted disapproval in the past.

“I predict that ‘Congressman’ Thomas Massie will go down as the worst Republican in the long and storied history of the United States Congress. That’s even worse than crazy Liz Cheney, crying Adam Kinzinger, and Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Wednesday.

“They’re all misfits and losers, but Massie, who’s running against a great American patriot in the Kentucky primary, is going to be a big loser,” he added.

In response, Massie (R-Ky.) chose to deflect the conversation to the Epstein File Transparency Act.

“The DJT ‘president’ reluctantly signed my beautiful Epstein File Transparency Act and predicts that princes and ambassadors and prime ministers and CEOs around the world will be arrested or completely disgraced. Oh wait, that’s already happened,” Massie commented.

Trump gave a speech on Wednesday in Hebron, Kentucky, which falls within Massie’s district. Ed Gallein, who is contesting Massie in the upcoming May primary, indicated that Trump’s visit was an endorsement of his campaign.

“Vote for Ed Gallein, the man I fully support. He is a true American hero!” Trump stated in another post on the same day.

Massie hasn’t proven to be a dependable Republican vote on crucial issues. While he aligned with his party’s majority by voting for a DHS funding bill on March 5th, he also stood out as one of just two Republicans who backed the War Powers Resolution.

Massie voted “no” on the One Big Beautiful Building Act, explaining in a post that, although it represented a conservative victory, it could severely harm “all Americans through sustained inflation and high interest rates.”

Despite Trump’s disapproval and limited backing from some Republican leaders, Massie received support from Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.).

Massie has also been critical of Gallein on social media, particularly about the latter’s party affiliation history. Massie pointed out that Gallein registered as an independent in 2016 soon after Trump won the Republican nomination, later re-registering as a Republican in 2021. These claims were highlighted in ads from Massie’s campaign.

“Ed wants you to believe he’s a ‘Republican.’ Full stop. The truth: Days after @realDonaldTrump won the nomination in 2016, he abandoned President Trump and left the Republican Party in disgust,” Massie posted on social media on Tuesday.

Gallein, in his defense, stated he was proud to have voted for Trump during all three elections.

Trump addressed Massie’s criticisms of Gallein’s temporary independent status, asserting that Gallein remains a strong supporter.

“The fact is, a lot of people do, but Ed still supports me very strongly, much more than Massie ever did or ever will,” Trump remarked.
