Reflecting Pool Near Lincoln Memorial Drained for Repairs
President Donald Trump disclosed on Monday that the well-known reflecting pool adjacent to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., has been drained to address damages inflicted by vandals.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “Today we drained the beautiful ‘Reflecting Pool’ to repair the scars and damage inflicted by the Vandals two weeks ago.” He continued, mentioning that, “We wanted to wait until after the 4th of July weekend. The cut was 300 yards long and the pool floor was cut out by the thugs and then pulled upwards with great force. The Park Service had to empty the watertight sink to fix it. It will be refilled and put back into service soon. This filthy bag of country haters will pay dearly for the damage done.” He concluded with a nod to his campaign slogan.
Footage from Freedom News TV showed the reflecting pool during the draining process.
On another note, Emily Miller, referred to as the “Running Reporter,” reported that authorities have installed surveillance cameras around the pool due to the vandalism. She mentioned that inspectors are currently evaluating the extent of the damage in preparation for discussions with contractors regarding repairs.
Earlier in June, President Trump had mentioned that vandals had also targeted nearby lawns and a newly installed pool surface, with reports indicating that an individual had jumped into the pool and removed a substantial piece of sealant before being apprehended.
Additionally, it was reported that the numbers “86 47” had been carved into the lawn of the National Mall prior to a UFC event at the White House. The number 86 typically refers to getting rid of something, while 47 denotes Trump being the 47th president.
In another incident, former U.S. Olympic canoe racer David Hahn faced charges for vandalizing property at a pool, accused of damaging the pool’s liner and much of the sealant.
Trump’s announcement regarding the draining of the reflecting pool follows his administration’s previous initiatives aimed at reducing crime in the capital and revitalizing various monuments, fountains, and landscapes, alongside the upkeep of the White House. Interestingly, even some Democrats have recognized the effectiveness of these efforts.
