Trump Defends Chief of Staff Amid Rumors
President Donald Trump has responded to rumors regarding the future of White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, firmly stating that he has no plans to replace her.
Following the resignation of White House press secretary Katie Zacharia on Friday, Politico indicated that Wiles might be the next victim of personnel changes within the Trump administration, referring to her diminishing influence.
In a statement provided by the White House, Trump criticized the report, stating, “TOTAL FAKE NEWS. Politico doesn’t care about facts, integrity, or honest journalism — it’s why I kicked them out of the White House! Susie Wiles is my loyal and longest-serving Chief of Staff — there is a reason for that. She has been with me since the beginning, is my trusted advisor, and has my COMPLETE confidence.”
When pressed by reporters outside the White House, Trump reiterated, “The Susie Wiles story was a fake story.”
The president went on to commend Wiles’ contributions during his current term, highlighting her role as the first female chief of staff in the White House.
“She has been incredible. We’ve had maybe the most successful first two years — and it’s not even two years — in the history of the presidency,” Trump stated, adding, “She’s smart, she’s tough, she just went through a lot with the cancer surgery … and she recovered — fully recovered. She’s phenomenal.”
Wiles, who is 69, publicly announced that she was cancer-free last month, six months after revealing her diagnosis.
During his remarks, Trump used this situation as an example of what he termed “fake news,” which led to the exclusion of Politico journalists from the White House in the previous month.
“We told that to Politico. We said, ‘Your story is totally wrong,’” he emphasized. “The only one that matters is me because I’m the one that makes the decision. So, they made up fake news. They released it knowing it was a fake story.”
Trump concluded his remarks by affirming Wiles’ position, stating, “Susie is here, and she’s going to be here for a long time.”
