Trump Discusses White House Renovations

On Sunday, former President Donald Trump highlighted the recent renovations made to the White House, asserting that prior to these updates, the building was, in his words, a “dump.”

In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed that the White House was in “very bad condition” and criticized previous administrations for neglecting its maintenance. He wrote, “The White House was in very bad condition, both inside and out. Frankly, it was a ‘dump!’ Past Presidents did not take care of it. I love renovating it during my spare time, which is not much.”

He praised the efforts of the Department of the Interior and various contractors, claiming they are doing a “fantastic job” on the renovations. Trump remarked, “The exterior ‘skin’ of the Building was practically falling off! It is now in better shape than when built in 1792. Such an Honor to have the privilege of saving this Great Structure!”

Trump also noted that without these renovations, the “beloved White House” would have suffered significant damage.

These comments come alongside a series of structural and aesthetic changes he has implemented at the White House, many of which have faced criticism from preservationists and sparked legal disputes. Some of these changes include reinforcing the North Portico entrance, adding gold accents to the Oval Office and Cabinet Room, and making alterations to the historic Rose Garden, including plans to demolish the East Wing for a proposed grand ballroom.

Moreover, the administration has initiated extensive renovations at other iconic locations such as the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, proposed a repainting of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, and moved forward with significant updates at the Kennedy Center.

Trump has also supported initiatives for a 250-foot triumphal arch near Arlington National Cemetery and a National Garden of American Heroes.
