Trump Addresses Concerns About Flying From NATO Summit
President Donald Trump recently tackled concerns surrounding the safety of flying home after the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, particularly in light of threats from Iran. He indicated that he would not be utilizing the new Air Force One for his journey, as it’s scheduled to head to the UK.
“We’re flying to Europe, one of the big bases,” he stated. “We have a couple of significant bases to showcase to the public, and we’ll return in the usual manner,” he added. Trump mentioned that their flight would include several stops at bases, with one particular location planned so soldiers could get a glimpse of the new aircraft, which he described as “really amazing.”
Earlier that day, on Truth Social, Trump announced that a new airplane would be dispatched to RAF Mildenhall in Britain to honor American soldiers. He wrote, “To pay tribute to our brave service members, we’re bringing a brand new, truly spectacular Air Force One to RAF Mildenhall and allowing them the first opportunity to tour it. Everyone is thrilled!”
He further elaborated on their plans, saying, “In a nod to the past, we’re taking the older Air Force One from Turkey to Mildenhall. It’s a short but very meaningful journey for our military heroes to appreciate the beautiful new aircraft now in service!”
During a news conference, Trump was questioned about the speculation of him departing on the old aircraft because of potential threats from Iran. He remarked, “I discuss this frequently because the president’s life is indeed at risk,” adding, “The president is at the top of Iran’s kill list.” He lightened the mood somewhat with a comment about how “they’re wonderful people” while also noting, “I’m the best.”
Trump, who has faced at least three assassination attempts, pointed out the realities of being the leader of the free world and noted that the mortality risk for U.S. presidents stands at about “5.2%.” He made an interesting comparison, noting that “a race car driver’s risk is one-tenth of one percent,” and cheekily added, “If you’d told me this earlier, maybe I wouldn’t have decided to run. This job is quite dangerous!”
Concluding his thoughts, Trump expressed his serious worry about the threats he faces, stating, “I’m really concerned about these dangers because I am performing my duties.” He humorously lamented, “I’d rather be number one on TikTok, but here I am, number one on the list of murderers.”
