Trump Sends Border Protection Secretary to Minnesota
President Donald Trump revealed on Truth Social that he will dispatch Tom Homan, the Secretary of Border Protection, to Minnesota. This announcement comes shortly after federal agents were involved in two separate shootings.
Homan mentioned he would be heading to Minnesota “tonight” to report directly to the president. His deployment is timed with ongoing protests following the incidents involving Renee Good and Alex Preti during a standoff with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection.
In his post, Trump stated, “Although he is not involved in the area, he knows and likes many of the people there. Tom is tough but fair and reports directly to me.”
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt confirmed Homan’s role will include overseeing ICE operations in Minnesota, focusing on arresting serious criminal offenders among illegal immigrants.
Additionally, Leavitt noted Homan’s intention to collaborate with investigators concerning significant fraud in the state. This follows the recent freezing of child care payments to Minnesota after YouTuber Nick Shirley uncovered that several Somali-run child care centers received state funding without enrolling any children.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem described Homan’s deployment as “good news for peace, security, and accountability in Minneapolis.” She also expressed her appreciation for Homan, stating he has been a valuable member of their team over the past year.
