On Friday, President Trump expressed his belief that the Justice Department is effective, advocating for bipartisan lawmakers to push for greater transparency in the case involving the late investor and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In a detailed post on Truth Social, Trump criticized Democrats for “reviving” Epstein’s case while noting that Republicans seemed more focused on ensuring transparency.
He remarked, “The confused and badly failed Democrats did nothing about Jeffrey Epstein while he was alive except to befriend him, interact with him, and even visit his island!” He questioned the newfound concern Democrats claim to have for Epstein’s victims, suggesting their sincerity is questionable after years of silence.
Trump continued, stating, “He’s dying (after the DOJ has provided thousands of documents in full compliance with a thorough subpoena from Congress!).” He argued that the Justice Department has fulfilled its obligations and called for an end to what he referred to as the “Democrat Epstein hoax,” urging praise for Republican efforts.
Both House Republicans and Democrats have sought more information regarding the Epstein case for weeks. Recently, lawmakers held a press conference alongside Epstein’s victims, calling for increased transparency. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) suggested that Trump should meet with the victims at the White House.
Rep. Thomas Massey (R-Ky.), often in opposition to Trump, initiated a discharge petition aimed at compelling the Trump administration to release all government files related to Epstein. This petition seems poised to gain necessary support soon.
House GOP leaders, like Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), have instead encouraged legislators to back the oversight and government reform committee’s efforts. This includes calls for more disclosures from the DOJ, the Epstein Estate, and former federal law enforcement officials involved in the case.
On Tuesday, the House Oversight Committee unveiled documents it received from the DOJ in response to a subpoena related to Epstein. Nevertheless, critics contend that many of these documents have previously been made public.
Trump has voiced his frustration about the focus on Epstein’s case, even criticizing some of his supporters who were eager for additional information after announcements from the FBI and DOJ indicated that Epstein didn’t maintain a so-called “client list.”
Epstein, who faced multiple accusations of sex trafficking involving young girls, mingled with powerful figures including Trump, former President Clinton, British Prince Andrew, and various celebrities. His associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, was convicted of sex trafficking and spoke with the Department of Justice Chief Executive in July.
