After Daniel Penny's acquittal earlier in the day, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) said it was time to investigate the New York prosecutor's office, including Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. I'm thinking.
During an appearance on Fox Business Network on Monday, the Texas Republican called on the incoming Trump Justice Department to investigate possible civil rights violations committed by Mr. Bragg against Penny.
“I want to take it home right now,” said FBN host David Usman. “With this decision by a New York court to acquit Daniel Penny, many people recognized him as a true hero. Both species stopped a crazy man from injuring a passenger, stating that his goal was not to kill this person, but that it turned out to be completely innocent. Is this a good sign of what’s happening in American cities?”
“Let me tell you this: Of all the things that have happened recently, American juries have stood up against the insane, tyrannical misconduct of the New York prosecutors and Alvin Bragg, and that this man has said, It's true. This American hero should be freed, God bless him.'' Roy replied. “That means things are moving in the right direction. Now, let me be clear: The Department of Justice under President Trump's administration has committed civil rights violations against Daniel Penny, and the New York government and New York prosecutors have committed I want the Department of Justice to hold New York accountable.”
He continued, “You can't do something like this to an American hero. That's what just happened. But God bless this jury for getting the right verdict. By the way, this… Judges stall after impasse to prepare further charges Andy McCarthy has written and talked about this extensively. So I'm grateful to the jury. This is a huge step forward for the Department of Justice. Let's hope we can respond correctly.”
