Trump Eliminates All Federal Grants; Regards, America

Federal Grants to Harvard Halted

The Trump administration announced on Monday that it will no longer provide federal grants to Harvard University.

According to a letter from Education Secretary Linda McMahon to Harvard President Alan M. Gerber, the U.S. government is ending financial support due to concerns about Harvard’s adherence to federal laws.

In her three-page correspondence, McMahon criticized the university for, as she put it, a “systematic pattern of violating federal law.” She referenced a 2023 Supreme Court decision that dismissed the university’s use of racially-based affirmative action in its admissions process.

This move follows a recent announcement where the Trump administration reportedly cut $2.2 billion in grants and contracts, as noted by Gerber. Despite these reductions, Harvard has chosen not to comply with demands from the White House for further funding cuts amounting to an additional billion dollars.

The letter, shared online by McMahon, begins with a greeting addressed to Harvard.

Furthermore, Harvard is among ten universities currently under investigation by President Trump’s anti-Semitism Task Force due to incidents involving radical anti-Israel protests that led to threats and violence against Harvard students.

Historically, Harvard has received around $9 billion in federal grants, alongside approximately $53 billion in donations.
