Trump Urges Alaskans to Vote for ‘Real’ Dan Sullivan
President Donald Trump has reached out to voters in Alaska, encouraging them to elect “the real Dan Sullivan” amid a Senate primary where two candidates share the same last name.
Leading up to the primary, Trump has endorsed the incumbent, Sen. Dan S. Sullivan (R-Alaska).
The President and his allies have accused Democrats of supporting a primary challenger, a former school teacher also named Dan J. Sullivan, labeling it a “sham” tactic designed to confuse voters and assist Democratic frontrunner, former Rep. Mary Peltola.
“Alaska: Take care and vote for the real Dan Sullivan today,” Trump posted on Truth Social on Tuesday. He further commented on the challenge, saying, “Democrats know how good he is and put up a scammer with the same name. Vote for the ‘incumbent senator.’ Don’t let the scammers get away with this hoax.”
On the other hand, the incumbent senator’s Republican opponent, who identifies as a pragmatic Republican, will appear on the ballot as “Daniel J. Sullivan Jr.”
Earlier, Trump commended Sen. Sullivan for his efforts for Alaska, emphasizing his commitment to economic growth, tax reduction, deregulation, and energy price control.
“Due to voting fraud, these crooked radical left Democrats put up another guy named ‘Dan Sullivan’ to take votes away from the great senator with the same name,” Trump remarked, as he listed preferred candidates alongside Dan S. Sullivan – Registered Republican/Incumbent.
The Senate primary on Tuesday has a crowded field, with 16 candidates in the mix, including former U.S. Rep. Mary Peltola (D-Alaska). Alaska’s election system allows the top four candidates to advance to the general election in November, rather than conducting a conventional party primary.
Initially, state election officials disqualified Dan J. Sullivan over concerns about his intention to confuse voters. However, the Alaska Supreme Court later ruled that his name would remain on the ballot.
