Trump Estimates TSMC’s $100B Investment Will Create 20,000+ Jobs

President Donald Trump on Monday predicted that Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturers (TSMC) in the United States would create between 20,000 and 25,000 jobs.

Trump made the estimates while submitting questions at a press conference that announced the investment along with TSMC CEO CC Way, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and AI and Crypto Czar David Sacks.

“We're probably talking about 20-25,000 jobs, but over time it gets bigger and bigger. Knowing this gentleman, it gets bigger and bigger. It's not going to stop him,” Trump laughed and mentioned Wey.

The president praised WEI as a “legend” in the business and semiconductor world in the first half of the press conference.

The investment, which would reach at least $100 billion, includes the construction of five semiconductor manufacturing facilities in Arizona, Trump said.

“The world's most powerful AI chips are made in the US and will be the majority of the chips his company has made, but you know, they are primarily based on Taiwan,” Trump pointed out.

Lutnick said that tariffs will help incentivize investments and highlighted that TSMC can come to the US “as they can avoid paying customs duties.”

“So, come to America. Building greatness in America. Building for American customers,” Rutnick added.

Way expressed his gratitude to Trump and some of the key customers of companies like Apple and Nvidida.

This is the latest in a string of major US investments secured since Trump took office. In late February, Apple announced plans to invest $5 trillion in the US over the next four years.

On his second day in office, Trump revealed an additional $500 billion investment, standing alongside Oracle Board Chair and CTO Larry Ellison, son of SoftBank CEO Masayoshi, and White House Open Rye CEO Sam Altman. Executives are investing 500 billion in the US AI infrastructure through a collaborative effort called Stargate.
