Jean Smart Calls for Anti-Trump Protests
Actress Jean Smart criticized President Donald Trump while urging her followers to join an anti-Trump “No Kings protest” this upcoming weekend.
In an Instagram video, which received enthusiastic feedback from people like Katie Couric, she said, “I encourage you all to try to find a No Kings protest in your community. A peaceful protest. Please join us on October 18th. The guy who is in the White House seems to think he has fooled everyone, but he clearly has shown that he admires dictators and aspires to be one.”
Smart continued, “And it’s sort of ironic because our country was founded on the idea of rebelling against kings. The most patriotic thing you can do is to say ‘No Kings.’ Kings have no place in the United States. So, please look for a peaceful No Kings protest nearby.”
The “No Kings” protests are set to occur nationwide on October 18, following similar protests held four months earlier in June.
“In June, we accomplished what many thought was impossible. We peacefully mobilized millions into the streets, declaring in unison, ‘America has no king.’ It made a difference. The world witnessed the power of the people. Protests overshadowed President Trump’s birthday parade in every state and around the globe. His attempts to turn June 14 into a coronation fell apart, revitalizing movements against his authoritarian hold on power,” the protest organizers stated.
“Our peaceful movement continues to gain strength. ‘NO KINGS’ isn’t just a slogan; it’s the principle upon which our nation stands. It originated in the streets, resonated with millions, appeared on posters and in chants, uniting individuals across this country to oppose dictatorship,” they added.
