Trump Expresses Continued Affection for Musk After Split
On Tuesday, President Trump shared that he still has a fondness for Elon Musk, despite their public fallout earlier this year regarding the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” This comment came after a Cabinet meeting when Fox Business’ Edward Lawrence inquired if Musk would rejoin his social circle after their disagreements.
Trump responded, “Well, I really don’t know. I mean, I love Elon,” acknowledging the support Musk has given during the 2024 campaign while also mentioning their differing views on electric vehicle policies.
Musk had played a significant role in the early part of Trump’s second term. He essentially led the Department of Government Efficiency and often participated in Cabinet meetings and public events alongside the President until his tenure there concluded in May.
However, their relationship soured in June when Musk publicly criticized the “Big Beautiful Bill.” Signed by Trump in July, this extensive legislation addressed key issues like taxes, immigration, energy, and defense. Musk condemned it on social media, calling it the “biggest debt ceiling increase in history” and made personal remarks about Trump.
After their parting, Musk publicly supported Trump again during the 2024 election cycle, with notable backing in various battleground states that ultimately favored the Republican candidate over former Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump has frequently commended Musk’s role at DOGE for addressing issues related to federal overspending, a stance that drew criticism from various government officials and Democrats earlier this year.
Trump remarked that their relationship shifted after discussions about repealing electric vehicle mandates affecting Tesla, leading to the signing of resolutions that revoked certain California regulations. Musk’s public backing of Trump’s actions continued even as their personal rapport seemed to wane.
Notably, Musk was seen reconnecting with Trump in September at a memorial for Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, where they were spotted chatting together. Furthermore, Musk attended a recent event at the White House hosted by Trump, featuring key business leaders and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
These recent comments by Trump came during a Cabinet meeting, marking the ninth session since the beginning of his second term, which is notably equal to the total Cabinet meetings held by former President Biden during his entire four-year tenure.
