Trump Extends TikTok Ban Delay by 75 Days While Negotiations Continue!

On Friday, President Donald Trump declared that he would enact an executive order to postpone the ban on Tiktok in the United States for an additional 75 days.

Trump focused on the Truth Society to prepare for forthcoming executive orders as his initial 75-day extension to prohibit the social media giant owned by the Chinese company Baitedan was scheduled to end on Saturday.

“My administration has made significant efforts to protect Tiktok, and we have seen considerable progress,” Trump stated.

“This agreement necessitates further work to guarantee that all required approvals are finalized, so we are implementing an enforcement order to keep Tiktok operational for another 75 days,” he continued.

Trump acknowledged that he might not be fully content with the tariffs that he has implemented since taking office, including the 34% “liberation day” mutual tariffs on Wednesday, but he expressed his hope that China and the US can “continue to collaborate in good faith.”

We aim to maintain sincere cooperation with China. We can see that we are not entirely happy with our mutual tariffs (essential for fair trade between China and the US!). This demonstrates that tariffs are a highly effective economic tool and are vital for our national security! I don’t want Tiktok to “go dark.” We anticipate working with Tiktok and China to reach an agreement. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

In April 2024, former President Joe Biden enacted legislation mandating the divestment of shares in social media companies within nine months. If not completed, the app will face a ban in the US. The nine-month timeline lapsed prior to Trump initiating the first delay on January 19, 2025, and before the second delay on January 20, 2025.
