Trump facilitates Rwanda-Congo agreement while Pakistan puts him forward for the Nobel Prize

Trump and Rwanda-Congo Treaty

President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he, along with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has facilitated a significant treaty between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as Pakistan has put forth a nomination for Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.

In a post on his social media, Trump expressed his satisfaction with the agreement aimed at ending decades of conflict marked by severe violence. He mentioned that representatives from both Rwanda and Congo are scheduled to come to Washington next Monday for the official signing.

He described the treaty’s importance, stating that it marks a notable achievement for not just Africa but for the global community as a whole. However, he went on to assert that he does not expect to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. He stated, “I will not receive the Nobel Peace Prize for this,” adding similar sentiments about conflicts involving India and Pakistan and Serbia and Kosovo. He also highlighted the Abraham Accords, suggesting that further agreements could unite the Middle East.

His comments included a tone of resignation regarding the Nobel Prize, asserting that no matter what actions he takes—like those related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict or Israel-Iran tensions—his contributions may go unrecognized.

Continuing the conversation, Trump discussed the Indian-Pakistani situation, where India recently refuted his claims of having played a role in resolving tensions. The Indian Foreign Secretary emphasized that military operations have been occurring directly between the two nations.

In an intriguing turn, the Pakistani government officially nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize shortly after an announcement on social media. They attributed this nomination to his decisive diplomatic actions during the recent crisis between India and Pakistan, pointing out the alleged violations by India that resulted in civilian casualties.

The response from Pakistani officials indicated that Trump’s interventions showcased his commitment to peace talks and conflict resolution, particularly regarding the long-standing Jammu and Kashmir issue. The announcement underscored a hope that Trump’s approach could lead to ongoing diplomatic efforts in both South Asia and the Middle East.

The Nobel Prize nomination process is noteworthy; it requires prospective nominators to have specific qualifications such as being a national government official or a previous laureate, and nominations are kept confidential until finalized in January.
