Trump family introduces mobile service plan and $499 phone

Trump Mobile Launching This Summer

Big news in the telecom world: the Trump organization, led by Eric and Donald Jr., is set to introduce a new mobile phone service called Trump Mobile, along with smartphones made in the U.S. The announcement took place recently at Trump Tower in Manhattan.

According to the company, Trump Mobile claims to be “the only mobile service that aligns with your values and is built on reliability, freedom, and American pride.”

Details about the mobile service are still a bit vague, particularly regarding partnerships and financial terms. But the Trump Mobile website does mention features like unlimited talk, text, and telehealth services. As Donald Trump Jr. stated, users will have access to a variety of products including roadside assistance and unlimited text messages internationally.

They are promoting a “sleek gold smartphone,” designed and built in the U.S., which is set to retail for $499. Images and specifications for the T1 smartphone reveal that it will operate on Android, feature a 6.8-inch screen, and include a 16-megapixel selfie camera along with a 50-megapixel main camera. It’s also equipped with 12GB of RAM and 246GB of internal storage.

This push for U.S.-made devices is happening amid ongoing pressures on companies like Apple due to tariffs established during Trump’s presidency.

Interestingly, the company promises that Trump Mobile will provide coverage comparable to major carriers like Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T. The Trump sons are directly overseeing this venture.

The new mobile service offers a plan priced at $47.45 a month, which is, well, pricier compared to other budget plans like Verizon’s Visible, which goes for $25 a month for unlimited services. Mint Mobile has a similar offering at $30 a month.

In the background, Trump’s financial disclosures reveal he’s earned over $57 million from family-related cryptocurrency ventures and around $8 million from various licensing agreements. The family has faced scrutiny for monetizing aspects of their brand while Trump is still in office, but he has distanced himself from the daily operations of the family business.

The launch is also taking place alongside regulatory scrutiny in the telecom sector, with FCC Chairman Brendan Carr challenging major cell service mergers.

As for Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T, none of them have commented on the launch so far.
