Trump Targets The New York Times with $15 Billion Lawsuit

Following a couple of notable legal victories against major media outlets in the past year, former President Trump is now setting his sights on The New York Times. He announced his latest lawsuit, claiming a massive loss of value due to the newspaper’s reporting.

“I’m honored to be a virtual ‘mouthpiece’ for the radical left, launching a $15 billion lawsuit against The New York Times, one of the most corrupt publications in our nation’s history,” he stated, expressing his grievances on a platform.

“For too long, the Times has gotten away with lying, smearing, and slandering me,” Trump continued. “They’ve crafted a narrative filled with deceit regarding my administration, my family, my business, and the America First movement.”

The lawsuit, which is intended to, as Trump puts it, “kill three birds with one stone,” addresses three specific articles he deems false and damaging, related to supposed election interference.

Among these articles are “Lucky Loser: How Donald Trump wasted his father’s wealth and created fantasies of success” written by Suzanne Craig and Las Buetner, and “A Life of Scandal Heading Towards a Moment of Judgment” by Peter Baker. The third article, titled “As election approaches, Kelly warns Trump could rule like a dictator,” was penned by Michael S. Schmidt.

According to the lawsuit, the New York Times and the authors involved are named as defendants.

In response to the lawsuit, a spokesman for The New York Times remarked that it lacks merit, labeling it an attempt to stifle independent journalism. “We will not be intimidated,” he asserted.

Trump referenced his successful lawsuits against ABC and CBS, boasting about the settlements he received from those cases. For instance, ABC News agreed to pay $15 million regarding a claim made by George Stephanopoulos, while CBS also settled for $16 million over a 2024 interview involving Kamala Harris.

In conclusion, Trump is adamant about his fight against what he perceives as ongoing slander from the media.
