WASHINGTON – White House spokesman Caroline Leavitt said President Donald Trump “fully expects all House Republicans to support the ongoing resolution (CR).”
Levitt held a press conference on Tuesday. Trump called for a major challenge to Rep. Thomas Massey (R-KY) after refusing to support House Republican CRs to avoid government shutdowns. The house is setting up a CR floor voting on Tuesday afternoon.
Asked by Breitbart News if the president is ready to be offensive with other GOP lawmakers to support the resolution, Leavitt said, “He is very… engaged in this process.”
“He called lawmakers on Capitol Hill, and I think his statement to Rep. Massy speaks of himself,” she added. “And I will have the President make additional statements if he chooses, but he fully expects all House Republicans to vote for this ongoing resolution.”
Trump was lit up by Massie in a pair of statements released on Truth Social, Monday night and just before the briefing began.
In his first post, Trump said that Massey “is an “automatic “no” vote for almost everything,” despite the fact that he has always voted for ongoing past resolutions.
“He should be primary and I'll lead the charges against him,” he added, compared him to former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) saying, “Just another ancestor, not worth the fight.”
Trump wrote that Kentuckians were taking part in “a very interesting primary” in another poignant criticism of Massey on Tuesday.
“Rep.” Thomas Massey voted to delay the debt cap bill to the Trump administration, from the Biden administration to the Trump administration (from September to June before the election!) without getting anything because of this horrible, stupid move that could have got everything Republicans wanted. He further voted to delay the current budget disaster from the Biden administration to the Trump administration. I was running to the office at the time and doing my own thing, and when I heard about this it was very simply incredible – a devastating mistake! Now, and virtually every other vote, he is a very simple “no”. He is unable to even approve a continuing resolution when he approves multiple times during his “representative” career. Thomas Massey is an ancestor, and the great people of Kentucky are watching a very interesting primary in the not too distant future!
Respond to first post from his personal X account, Massie I wrote it“Why aren't more representatives standing in principle? Because telling the truth can take you with hot water.”
He fired several more answers on Trump from his official account, following the president's follow-up post.
“Potus is spending his day attacking me and Canada. The difference is that Canada will eventually become a cave,” Massey said. I wrote itone tweet has a laughing emoji.
“This tweet from Trump's account is very misleading,” he followed up. addressing Trump's advance briefing post.
“I have never voted for a CR that has become law. I voted for CR under McCarthy, which includes an 8% reduction in all discretionary spending, but unfortunately CR has not become law,” he added, urging his followers to look into his records.
