Trump’s Firm Stance on Hamas and U.S. Troops
On Monday, President Trump shared significant insights regarding the potential role of U.S. troops in tackling Hamas, particularly if the group continues to disrupt the peace deal with Israel.
Seated alongside the Australian Prime Minister at the White House, Trump took questions from the press.
“They have to be good. If they’re not good, they’re exterminated,” Trump stated, issuing a clear warning to Hamas, which has been known for its attacks on Israelis.
“They’re going to behave. They’re going to be kind. And if they don’t, we’re going to go and eradicate them if necessary. They’re going to be eradicated. And they know it,” he emphasized.
He added, “They got very rowdy and did things they shouldn’t have done. If they keep at it, we’re going to step in and correct the problem. Unfortunately, that’s likely to happen very quickly and quite violently.”
When asked whether the U.S. military might be part of this action, Trump was clear: “No, it will not fall to the ground at all.” He pointed out that many countries have signed a peace agreement, rendering direct U.S. intervention unnecessary.
“A lot of countries, about 59, have come together in a way they didn’t just a few months ago. Now they’re aligned,” he noted.
He mentioned that countries affected by Hamas violence have reached out, expressing a desire to resolve the situation themselves. He remarked that if he were to call for their involvement, Israel would respond instantly.
Yet, he stressed that for now, it’s important to give peace a chance, hoping for some reduction in violence, but he noted that Hamas has a history of extreme violence.
Trump also pointed out that Hamas has been losing support from Iran and others, reiterating, “They have to be good and if they are not good they will be eradicated.”
A peace agreement facilitated by Trump has reportedly led to the release of some hostages held by Hamas in Israel.
There are, however, critics who strongly oppose the possibility of U.S. troops being deployed to support allies against Hamas.
