Trump to Celebrate Independence Day at Mount Rushmore

President Donald Trump is set to highlight America’s 250th Independence Day weekend with a visit to Mount Rushmore. This event marks a significant return to one of the most memorable moments from his first term in office, as the White House plans a week packed with patriotic activities across several historic sites.

The last time Trump was at Mount Rushmore for the fireworks was in 2020, during the landmark’s first official fireworks display in over a decade.

Back in January, the President unveiled an executive action aimed at honoring the nation’s history, calling for “a grand celebration befitting the momentous occasion of the 250th anniversary of American independence on July 4, 2026.” This summer saw a series of events nationwide, including the Great American State Fair held on the National Mall.

Additionally, Trump began this celebration by hosting a rally on June 24, preceding the fair’s opening.

On Saturday, he will return to the stage for the “Salute to America” event. However, Washington, D.C., is currently under a “severe heat warning,” with temperatures expected to soar above 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

His scheduled remarks before a grand fireworks display on the National Mall are set to begin around 9 p.m. ET, which officials claim will be the largest in history.

This summer, the National Mall has garnered attention due to a series of vandalism incidents affecting its reflecting pools and monuments. Following a recent order by Trump to repair and repaint the reflecting pool, officials noted the appearance of “razor-blade” scratches on its lining.

Earlier this week, Trump attended the inauguration of the Theodore Roosevelt Library in Medora, North Dakota. Roosevelt is known for his commitment to the outdoors and for significantly expanding federal protections for natural resources, establishing national parks, and reinforcing the U.S. Forest Service.

In another development, Trump recently signed the Great American Outdoors Act Reauthorization, which builds on past legislation aimed at renewing funding for the upcoming 250th anniversary celebrations. It seems there’s a lot of excitement as the nation gears up for this historic milestone.
