Trump Attends NFL Game in Maryland
On Sunday, President Donald Trump made a visit to Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, to watch a matchup between the Washington Commanders and the Detroit Lions. Having spent the morning playing golf in Florida, he returned to Washington just in time for the game, which included a special tribute to veterans.
Trump was expected to sit alongside Commanders’ principal owner, Josh Harris, who has been working with local officials and the White House for a new stadium project at the site of the former RFK Stadium. Before heading into the stadium, he remarked to reporters, “I just want to say, was that the best flyover ever? No one has ever done a flyover like that.”
Secretary of the Army Pete Hegseth was also seen with Harris ahead of the game, and Air Force One completed a flyover as the game was just beginning.
Interestingly, a mediator from the White House indicated to the management group that President Trump has a desire for the new stadium to carry his name. White House press secretary Caroline Levitt commented, “It’s definitely a beautiful name.”
The Commanders expressed their excitement about Trump’s presence. Mark Close, the Commanders Club President, stated, “We are honored to welcome President Trump to the game as we honor those who have served and continue to serve our country. The entire Commanders organization is proud to join the NFL in a league-wide service effort this Sunday to recognize the dedication and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans, active duty military, and their families.”
Notably, Trump is the first sitting president to attend a regular-season NFL game since Jimmy Carter in 1978. He previously attended the Super Bowl LIX between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Over the past year, the president has frequented various sporting events, from UFC matches to the Ryder Cup, showing a continued engagement with sports culture in America.
