President Trump warmly greeted the prime minister and his wife, Sara Netanyahu, with a smile on his face, kissed her on the cheek, shook hands firmly with Bibi, and posed for a photograph with the couple.
The meeting with Trump came after Netanyahu met with Vice President Kamala Harris the day before. What initially appeared to be a successful meeting between Kamala and Bibi later turned sour when Netanyahu was informed of and displeased with critical comments Harris had made in a speech about Israel in its ongoing war in Gaza.
Additionally, former President Trump reportedly showed Bibi the healing bullet wound in his ear.
During the meeting, President Trump briefly invited reporters into the room while he was asked about the future of US-Israeli relations.
“If we win, things are very simple. Everything will be resolved immediately. If we don’t win, there will be a major war in the Middle East, possibly World War III. We are closer to World War III now than we were at any time during World War II. We have never been closer because we have incompetent people running our country,” Trump said.
Prime Minister Netanyahu then said he had received information about an abducted Israeli child from the child’s grandfather, to which President Trump responded, “We will handle it.”
Speaking at a joint session of Parliament on Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also spoke highly of Trump and expressed relief that the assassination attempt had failed.
“I want to thank President Trump for his leadership in brokering the historic Abraham Accords. The Israeli people, like the American people, are relieved that President Trump has escaped unscathed from this despicable attack on time and on American democracy. There is no place for political violence in a democracy,” Netanyahu said.
In an interview on Thursday Fox & FriendsSpeaking about Netanyahu’s speech to Congress, President Trump said that Netanyahu was “very kind to me.”
“I want him to finish it quickly,” Trump said. “It has to end quickly, because they’re being destroyed by this publicity. You know, Israel is not very good at public relations.”
