Trump has an advantage over Democrats regarding crime concerns, according to a columnist.

Politico’s Rachel Bade shared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that President Donald Trump appears to maintain a “dominance” over Democrats when it comes to the crime issue. She mentioned that, politically speaking, Trump seems to believe he has the upper hand. Voters, she observed, aren’t as receptive to the idea that he’s an authoritarian, but they definitely dislike the overt partisanship. They want something more substantive.

In her column, Bade argued that Democrats needed to present a stronger response to Trump’s tough stance on crime, especially with the 2026 midterm elections approaching. She noted that Trump’s focus on crime is a strategic move to reshape the narrative in favor of Republicans.

Bade pointed out that it’s not merely about winning arguments; it’s about how Trump projects strength. He tells voters, “I’m tough on crime,” and Democrats counter with claims about his authority, but she believes that doesn’t resonate well with the public. They need a more effective message.

She described the current public safety discussions as a tactical effort from the White House to draw attention to issues that might bolster Republican support. Trump, according to her, is trying to connect with voters around the nation.

Amid these developments, some community leaders, like Pastor Chicago, have criticized Democrats for what they see as misleading narratives about crime, urging Trump to deploy the National Guard to address the situation.

In response to the ongoing crime discussions, Trump accused Democrats of fostering crime in remarks made during cabinet meetings. He claimed to be spearheading crime reduction efforts, citing areas like Washington, D.C., and Chicago as focal points. In turn, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker accused Trump of “manufacturing a crisis” in Chicago and suggested the use of the National Guard.

Trump has expressed intentions to use federal resources for crime control in cities, raising concerns about the implications of such actions. His approach has sparked worry among local residents about their communities turning into conflict zones.
