Trump Has ‘Definitely Not’ Changed the Republican Party

Gov. Chris Sununu (R-New Hampshire) said Sunday on CNN's “State of the Union” that President-elect Donald Trump is not changing the Republican Party.

Host Dana Bash said: As I said earlier, you did not support Donald Trump in the primary. You said he doesn't represent the Republican Party. He is old. he says strange things. He has no outstanding track record. What do you think now?

Sununu said, “Yeah, look, I mean, he's not my first choice in the primary process, he's not my second, third, fourth choice. But obviously, he won the primary. I don't take anything I said. I think there were a lot of other great candidates in terms of moving the party forward. He won the primary, he won the nomination, he won the American people's vote. We have to get over this, right? In terms of delivery, I think this term will be fundamentally different from the previous term for a number of reasons. I am now in my 9th year as the spokesperson for And all of that is centered around that confusion. People didn't vote for him because of his policies. They voted for him because he's an outside influence that destroys and overthrows the system. Because they are still seen as having power.”

He added: “There will be no Trump 2.0. I always say Trump is who he is.”

Bash asked, “Has he changed your party forever?”

Sununu said, “No, absolutely not.”
