Rep. James Clyburn (D-South Carolina) said Monday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that former President Donald Trump had disrespect for people of color.
“I want to give you an opportunity to briefly respond to some of the comments that Donald Trump made on the debate stage about illegal immigration,” moderator Dana Bash said.
“What I’m saying is, immigrants are now taking black jobs. 18 million, 19 million, maybe 20 million immigrants are taking black and Hispanic jobs,” Trump said.
“What’s your reaction to Joe Biden talking about this?” Bash asked.
“Donald Trump is Donald Trump. He has very, very, very disrespect for people of color, black, brown, any color. He has very, very disrespect for black people. He’s demonstrated that his whole life. I would like to hear from some of his black supporters why they’re not having these discussions, but what has this man done to black women, what has this man done to black youth, what has he done to his business with regards to black people,” Clyburn said.
He added, “How do you reconcile this to allow this guy all of this? Compare his employment record to Joe Biden’s higher record, and you’ll get an indication of whether it’s going to move forward. When you said black jobs the other night, you meant there are jobs for black people and there are jobs for white people. There are jobs for white people and there are jobs for non-white people. And these people will come in and take the jobs for non-white people, never mind that they’re a threat to the rest of us jobs.”
