Trump Hosts Dinner with Kid Rock, Bill Maher, and Stephen A. Smith

President Donald Trump held a dinner on Thursday night featuring a rather interesting guest list, including musician Kid Rock, HBO’s Bill Maher, and ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith.

Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, spoke about the dinner while appearing on “Fox & Friends” the next morning, referring to the event as “epic.” He shared that the group found common ground on at least one issue: “Socialism and communism have no place to have a foothold in our government.”

The exact purpose behind this particular gathering isn’t really clear. However, Rock mentioned that he and Maher had joined Trump for another meal recently, which also included UFC’s Dana White. This time, Smith was presumably the representative for sports.

There’s some political diversity among the attendees. Kid Rock is known for his support of Trump, while Maher has established himself as a liberal who has critiqued both major parties and the progressive left lately. As for Smith, he tends to shift positions politically, making it hard to pin him down.

It seems likely that Smith took on the role of a proud moderate during this dinner, a contrast to his more liberal perspectives shared on his SiriusXM show and YouTube channel, where he often addresses issues important to the Black community.

Smith plans to discuss the dinner on his podcast that evening. I can guess that he’ll probably minimize the cozy atmosphere of the evening, emphasizing that dining with Trump doesn’t imply support for him, while also claiming he raised racial issues. It wouldn’t be surprising if he has a different take when discussing it with a conservative audience later.

Maher is probably the one who will provide the most candid account of the evening’s events. I think the dinner must have had its entertaining moments, based on Rock’s enthusiasm.

Another noteworthy aspect of this dinner is that Trump, in 2026, still engages with individuals who openly disagree with him—something not many politicians are willing to do. Maher, for example, has been one of Trump’s more outspoken critics, even after their dinner together last year.

In any case, this unusual gathering of Trump, Kid Rock, Maher, and Smith could certainly be a topic for Saturday Night Live, assuming they steer clear of any sensitive subjects.
