Trump Discusses Workforce Changes and Economic Performance

President Donald Trump spoke on Wednesday about his administration’s initiatives aimed at reducing the federal workforce while simultaneously increasing jobs in the private sector.

“Since January, we’ve cut 100,000 government jobs,” he said during a speech at the American Business Forum. He mentioned that government spending this quarter is down 2.5% compared to last year, adding, “Just think about that.”

Trump highlighted that every new job created under his administration has come from the private sector. “Without the private sector, there wouldn’t be a country,” he declared, emphasizing his belief in the importance of private employment.

He also expressed appreciation for public servants, stating, “I love them, but if we had only civil servants, we wouldn’t have a country, would we?”

Private sector added 42,000 jobs in October, exceeding expectations, according to ADP

Recent Labor Department data indicates that roughly 404,000 private sector jobs were added between February, marking the beginning of Trump’s second term, and August.

However, due to the ongoing government shutdown, the release of the September employment report has been postponed. Additionally, the upcoming October report will also most likely be delayed.

Fed’s Powell mentions shutdown impacts on labor market reporting

The number of government workers has decreased from 3.002 million in February to 2.918 million in August, revealing a drop of at least 84,000 federal jobs since Trump began his second term.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics plans to publish the delayed September and October employment data, which may show a marked drop in federal employment figures.
