Trump Criticizes Boebert Over Campaign Choices
On Saturday, former President Donald Trump took aim at Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), a long-time ally, suggesting he might back her primary opponent after she supported one of his significant rivals in the Republican party.
Trump expressed his frustrations on Truth Social regarding Boebert, who had endorsed his re-election in the past, following her collaboration with Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), known for being one of Trump’s strongest critics in Congress.
“Is anyone interested in running against the timid Lauren Boebert in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District?” Trump asked.
His discontent stemmed from Boebert’s support for Massie, whose main challenger, retired Navy SEAL Ed Gullane, has the backing of Trump.
“Boebert is campaigning for the worst ‘Republican’ Congressman in our nation’s history, Thomas Massie of Kentucky. Anyone that stupid deserves a good fight in the primary!” Trump noted, adding that while he once supported Boebert, he wouldn’t hesitate to withdraw that support for a more suitable candidate.
“Let me know or announce your candidacy. I’ll be there for you!” he added.
When approached by Fox News for comment, Boebert initially opted not to engage directly with Trump’s remarks, indicating she did not wish to elevate them. Later, she defended her endorsement of Massie in a post on X.
Boebert acknowledged Trump’s comments, stating, “Yes, I saw the president’s post. No, I am not angry or offended. When I agreed to support my friend Thomas Massey, I knew the risks. I have always been, and always will be, America First, America Always, and MAGA.”
Massie, when questioned about Trump’s post after a Saturday rally in Kentucky, responded that it was too late for a challenge to Boebert since the filing deadline had passed. “I think he should mend fences with these people instead of trying to burn bridges,” he remarked.
Trump also criticized Massie, calling him “disloyal” and highlighting Gullane as a preferable alternative. He referred to Massie as a “dishonest, disrespectful, sanctimonious idiot who hardly votes for the best values of the Republican Party.”
Meanwhile, Trump expressed his admiration for Gullane, labeling him as a “true American patriot” and encouraging his followers to support him in the upcoming Republican primary.
The Kentucky Republican primary is set for May 19th.
