Former President Trump on Friday criticized Vice President Harris after her recent interview with CNN, calling her “defective.”
“I wish she'd just done the interview. Even if the interview didn't go well, that would have been better, because now everybody's paying attention and they know she's a flawed human being,” Trump said Friday at the annual gathering of the conservative nonprofit Moms for Liberty. “She's a flawed human being.”
“And we don't need another flawed human being as president of the United States,” Trump said, presumably referring to President Biden, who dropped out of the race last month and endorsed Harris. “And that's exactly what we had.”
He also said Biden made “very sharp” comments during a June presidential debate and complained that it was “unfair” that he had to spend millions of dollars going after the wrong people at last month's Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Biden dropped out of the race in late July, just days after the RNC concluded.
The latest attack on Harris came after she and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), gave their first major interviews as the party's presidential candidates on Thursday. CNN's Dana Bash interviewed the pair after pressure mounted for Harris to give an interview.
Trump has continued to launch personal attacks on the vice president amid his growing political popularity since rising to the top of the Democratic field in recent weeks. In the interview, the vice president also ignored questions from his Republican rival about his racial identity.
“The usual boring tactic. Next question please,” Harris replied.
“That's it?” Bash asked.
“That's it,” Harris replied.
Trump commented briefly about the interview during a campaign rally early Friday.
“Did you see her on TV last night? Is this person going to be our president? I don't think so,” he said in Pennsylvania.
The former president slammed Bash, calling him “nasty.”
“You know, I know Dana. She's always, always been mean. She's been very nice to Democrats,” he said, adding, “From CNN's perspective, it was a very weak interview. I think CNN should be ashamed of themselves.”
The network aired the interview in its entirety, but Trump and his supporters criticized CNN for pre-recording it rather than airing it live in order to cover up Harris' gaffe. There was no recording.
The Hill has reached out to Harris' campaign, CNN and the White House for comment.
