Trump holds razor-thin lead over Harris in new Pennsylvania poll

Former President Trump holds a slight lead over Vice President Harris in the key battleground state of Pennsylvania, according to a new Emerson College Polling/RealClear Pennsylvania survey.

of According to a poll released on Friday In head-to-head polls, Trump led Harris by one point, 49 percent to 48 percent. When undecided voters were asked to choose, the lead widened to two points, 51 percent to 49 percent.

Both totals are within the margin of error, meaning the candidates are statistically tied.

Including third-party candidates, Trump and Harris were tied at 47% each, while independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. received 3%. Two percent were undecided, and no other third-party candidate, including independent Cornel West, received more than 0.3%.

The results underscore how close the battle is for the Keystone State’s 19 electoral votes, which flipped Republican in 2016 and helped President Trump win, only to flip Democratic in 2020 and do the same for President Biden.

Polls show both candidates have roughly equal support among party members, with about 91% of registered Republican and Democratic voters saying they support their party’s candidate.

Trump holds a slim 3-point lead among independents, 48 percent to 45 percent, and also has a large lead among voters ages 50 to 69, 57 percent to 40 percent, and a slim lead among those 70 and older, 52 percent to 47 percent.

Harris’ strength comes from her support among younger voters, leading 61 percent to 36 percent among those under 40 and 57 percent to 42 percent among union members.

Among voters ages 40 to 49, the two candidates are tied at 49 percent each.

The results follow a Quinnipiac University poll released this week that showed Harris leading Trump by 3 points in the two-candidate and third-party races, with strong support from women helping her lead.

While the Emerson poll has Harris trailing Trump closely, it’s an improvement for Harris compared with a poll last month that showed Trump with a 6-point (51 percent to 45 percent) lead among very likely voters.

The poll was conducted among 1,000 voters on August 13-14 and has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
