Trump Holds White House Event Honoring Women's History Month

Women’s History Month at the White House

WASHINGTON—On Thursday, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump marked Women’s History Month at the White House. The event culminated with the president signing a proclamation designating March as Women’s History Month.

First Lady Melania Trump began the ceremony in the East Room, highlighting that the roles of women are deeply intertwined with America’s strength. She remarked, “America’s strength is linked to the role women play in shaping the character and education of our children. The values cultivated in our communities will influence the voice of our future generation.” She encouraged women to be brave, take risks, and pursue their careers while keeping family at the forefront.

As the president took the stage, he quipped about the First Lady potentially being “a little too big for the White House” following the success of the documentary melania. He expressed gratitude towards several women in senior positions within his administration, highlighting figures like White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt and Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Trump stressed the significant contributions women have made to the nation and reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving conditions for women. He mentioned influential women in history, stating, “From Martha Washington to Betsy Ross, America’s women have elevated our country,” adding that the aim is to create a better and safer environment for both women and men, with a special emphasis on women.

Various women shared their experiences at the event, demonstrating how the administration’s policies have positively impacted their lives. Heather, a waitress and mother, discussed her anticipated tax refund, which she attributed to the One Big Beautiful Bill, allowing tipped workers to deduct a significant amount from their income.

She remarked on the challenges faced by many workers in the industry, particularly single mothers, who often endure financial stress around tax time. “I had to work double to file my tax return because I received a $4,000 refund,” she shared, expressing her disbelief and gratitude to the president.

In a touching moment, U.S. Olympic bobsledder Kylie Humphries, who has earned three gold and three bronze medals, announced her pride in her title of mother, acknowledging her journey through in vitro fertilization (IVF). She honored President Trump with the Olympic Medal of Icos, an accolade given to those who have significantly contributed to the Olympic journey. “It’s my privilege to present my Ikos Medal to Donald Trump,” she stated, prompting a round of applause.

Humphries also praised the president for his efforts to advocate for women’s sports and improve access to IVF.
