Attempted Murder Charges Against Navy Veteran
A Navy veteran, Thomas Caleb Butler, 32, has been charged with attempted murder following an attack on the owner of the House of Cards in Southern California. Reports indicate that the victim’s wife, Maria Garcia, does not expect her husband, 69-year-old Kelly Sheron, to survive.
Butler is currently being held without bail at the Vista Detention Center in San Diego County. A friend of Butler revealed that he was unaware of why he assaulted Sheron and mentioned that Butler has been taking medication for his mental health issues. “He’s the type who enjoys playing with Legos and Star Wars,” the friend commented.
Friends have expressed concern that Butler’s medication isn’t effective, that his mental health is declining, and he’s been out of work since leaving the Navy. Another friend noted that Butler often isolates himself and feels paranoid, thinking that others are plotting against him.
Sheron’s property, adorned with American flags and pro-Trump decorations, has previously faced complaints from neighbors and acts of vandalism.
On Wednesday afternoon, police responded to reports of an assault near the House of Trump. They found Sheron suffering from serious injuries, and an intervening bystander was also hurt during the incident. After the attack, Butler fled but was soon apprehended by law enforcement.
Sheron is now in intensive care, while Garcia shared her despair, believing that the attack had political motivations. “It’s horrifying. I don’t understand such hatred,” she stated, emphasizing her support for America and her husband’s veteran status.
Calls for a thorough investigation into the incident have emerged, with Rep. Darrell Issa expressing concern about violence faced by Trump supporters nationwide.
