Former President Donald Trump honored the life of Pennsylvania firefighter and shooting victim Corey Comperatore, who was killed in an assassination attempt last Saturday, onstage at the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Thursday night by embracing and kissing his uniform.
“He was a highly respected, highly respected former fire chief,” Trump said. “He was accompanied by his wife, Helen, the incredible woman I spoke to today. She was devastated. And his two precious daughters. He lost his life selfishly acting as a human shield to protect them from the bullets flying around. He jumped right over them and got shot. What an honorable man he was.”
The former president then walked across the stage where Mr. Comperatore’s uniform was hanging, embraced it and kissed it.

Later in the speech, Trump quoted John 15:13, “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
Trump formally accepted the nomination to run against Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election on Thursday night. The Democratic National Convention (DNC) isn’t held until August.
