Trump 'in great spirits' after shooting, son says

Donald Trump Jr. spoke Saturday with his father, who was left bloodied after a shooting at a campaign rally, and said the former president was “doing very well.”

“I just spoke with my father on the phone and he is in great spirits,” Trump Jr. said in a statement. “No matter what attacks the radical left mounts, my father will never stop fighting to save America.”

Trump had been on stage for only a few moments at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when shots rang out and Secret Service agents stormed onto the stage, leaving Trump with blood coming from his ears and some blood on his face.

As the former president was being escorted away by police, he pointed a gun at the crowd.

The identity and motive of the shooter remain unknown.

In a statement, the Trump campaign said the former president was “in good spirits and is undergoing testing at a local medical facility. More details will be released at a later date.”

The Butler County District Attorney told The Associated Press that the suspected shooter is dead and that a rally attendee was also killed.

President Biden condemned the shooting and called on others to do the same. Biden said he was planning to speak with Trump by phone and hoped to do so as soon as Saturday night.
