Trump Endorses Mike Rogers in Michigan Senate Race

During a recent event at a General Motors facility in Milford, Michigan, former President Donald Trump expressed strong support for Michigan Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers, referring to him as “one of the best candidates” in the current election cycle.

Trump welcomed Rogers, a former congressman now running for the Senate, to the stage, speaking highly of his qualifications. “Here’s a guy running for the Senate. I think he happened to win last time, okay. He’s a great guy and respected all over Washington. He’s one of the best candidates anywhere,” Trump commented. “He’s smart. He’s tough. He’s fair.”

Rogers, who narrowly defeated Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) in the 2024 Senate race, thanked Trump for his presence and expressed a commitment to work on behalf of Michigan’s manufacturing sector if he wins.

“Thank you for coming here to our General Motors facility and making us happy and bringing jobs back… Mr. President, what if we had a senator who cared as much about manufacturing, and especially the state of Michigan, as you do? That’s the change we absolutely need,” he stated.

He further assured Trump, saying, “And when I get back there, Mr. President, I promise you this: We will work with you to protect our families, protect our freedoms, protect our factories, protect our finances.”

Rogers also committed to supporting the SAVE America Act if elected. This proposed legislation mandates proof of citizenship for voter registration, requires photo ID at polling places, and aims to restrict universal mail-in voting except where it was already permitted.

In a call to action, Rogers added, “And when I get back there, Mr. President, if you haven’t done it already, we’re going to pass the SAVE Act. Save America.”

Despite the upcoming August recess, Trump urged Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-South Dakota) to suspend the Senate’s schedule until the SAVE America Act is passed or until the filibuster is lifted, which would simplify the process for passing this and other legislation.

The current requirement for the bill to pass is 60 votes. Even with complete Republican backing, they would still need seven Democratic votes for it to succeed. Lifting the filibuster would allow the SAVE America Act to pass with a simple majority.

Michigan is set to hold its primary election on August 4th, where Rogers, running as an independent, will face either U.S. Representative Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) or Dr. Abdul El-Sayed.
