Trump Indicates He Might Send Troops to New Orleans

Trump Considers Sending National Guard to Tackle Crime in New Orleans

President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that he’s contemplating deploying federal forces to combat crime in New Orleans. This announcement follows his remarks about potentially sending the National Guard to other cities like Chicago.

During a discussion in the Oval Office, Trump expressed his determination regarding crime control efforts. He noted that Republican Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has extended an invitation for federal assistance. “Are you going to Chicago or somewhere like New Orleans where there’s a great governor?” Trump asked. He pointed out that New Orleans faces significant crime issues.

“We’re probably heading to Louisiana. New Orleans has a crime problem,” Trump remarked. He added that similar initiatives can effectively address crime in about two weeks, suggesting a faster response than in Washington, D.C.

Evening tweets from Governor Landry reflected his support, showing a clip of Trump’s comments. He mentioned, “I’ll take the president with me… Help from New Orleans to Shreveport!”

Earlier in August, Trump had announced the deployment of National Guard troops to D.C. to combat violent crime, which drew some criticism from Democrats. Nevertheless, recent polls indicate that a good portion of Americans approve of his approach to crime management.

In a social media post, Trump expressed confidence about quickly resolving crime issues, stating, “Like I did with D.C., Chicago is safe again and soon it will be safe.” His message enjoined followers to “Make America great again!”

The office of New Orleans’ Democrat Mayor LaToya Cantrell, in collaboration with the New Orleans Police Department, responded in a statement emphasizing their ongoing partnership with federal agencies, including the Louisiana State Police, in efforts to reduce crime.
