Trump informs Nvidia’s CEO that concerns about AI are a ‘hoax’ in a phone conversation.

Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang cautions that US chip restrictions have benefited China.

Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, unexpectedly received a phone call from former President Trump during an event at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles. On speakerphone for the audience, Trump dismissed concerns that artificial intelligence could pose a significant threat to humanity and argued against calls for slowing AI development.

“It’s all a hoax,” Trump stated. He emphasized the importance of data centers, claiming they not only create wealth for individuals but also contribute significantly to state economies. He referred to them as the “oil of the next 20–25 years.”

Trump went on to suggest that those criticizing AI advancements are playing into the hands of people who are opposed to progress. “That could be political folks or even China. We’re not going to let that happen,” he warned.

Moreover, he reiterated his belief that robots won’t take control of the world. In a related series of posts on Truth Social, he characterized fears about AI as exaggerated, labeling the notion of AI endangering humanity as a “HOAX.”

As the conversation surrounding AI safety intensifies in tech and political spheres, some leaders express contrasting views. Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic, wrote an essay advocating for a slower approach to AI development, emphasizing the need for stronger safeguards as technology advances. He laid out potential risks, including the misuse of AI for nefarious purposes.

Both Sam Altman from OpenAI and Elon Musk supported Amodei’s call for caution. Altman affirmed, “We need to pace the frontier,” pointing out that such discussions have been prevalent at OpenAI lately.

Meanwhile, requests for a comment from Nvidia were not immediately answered.
