MSNBC national security contributor Frank Figliuzzi told “Deadline” Wednesday that President-elect Donald Trump intends to make the FBI his “private police force.”
Host Nicole Wallace said, “The New York Times reported that after weeks of delays, Trump's transition team has finally signed a transition agreement.'' Meanwhile, the FBI is carrying out security checks on members of the transition. President Trump has refused to provide federal funding for the transition, which would allow the government to release people, including foreign nationals, from prison. It will be possible to raise unlimited private funds without having to disclose any information. ”
She asked, “Frank, what do you think?”
“Look, this may be the first of many concrete action items that we can point to that indicate that President Trump intends to turn the FBI into his personal police force,” Figliuzzi said. Hugo Lowell of the Guardian reports that the FBI will only conduct background checks on Trump after he takes over. And Trump's intentions are, yeah, how many years does he have with the FBI? We're going to do a background check on him, but only after he takes over and appoints a deputy director and director.Of course, there are rumors that Kash Patel is at least a candidate for deputy director. What will happen, according to this Guardian article, is that he will give candidates blanket security clearances from day one without the benefit of FBI background checks that are already in place. This creates a real national security dilemma.”
