The White House has unveiled a new AI-driven website designed to enhance accessibility to various federal services.
This portal, named “America.gov,” features a chatbot that allows users to ask questions and connect with government resources across numerous agencies.
President Donald Trump emphasized the initiative during an event with technology executives, saying, “We’re making it simpler and more appealing. It’s about time it functions the way it should.”
He signed an executive order directing government agencies to link their resources to the new site. “With America.gov, the government won’t get in your way; instead, it will be readily available to assist,” Trump remarked.
Examples of the services offered include quick access to information about National Parks and easier processes for updating one’s legal name, which were previously more tedious.
Joe Gebbia, the U.S. Chief Design Officer, expressed that, “For the first time, there’s a single place for all government tasks.”
He added that the site pulls information from an official source: the United States government. “Thanks to all the agencies managing the 29,000 websites and billions of information pieces that are now condensed into one user-friendly site.”
The website is live now, but some agencies are still working on integrating their data.
A test performed by Blaze News revealed that the site effectively answered inquiries regarding Freedom of Information Act requests and the availability of government officials’ emails for media purposes.
Trump noted the cumbersome nature of bureaucratic processes, stating, “We’ve grown accustomed to a government that feels overwhelmingly large to the public. But with America.gov, accessing the U.S. government can be straightforward.”
Joe Gebbia, previously a co-founder of Airbnb, transitioned into his role as the first Chief Design Officer for the government after leaving his company.
