Trump Campaigns in Syracuse with Tyson
President Donald Trump visited Syracuse, New York, where he campaigned for Bruce Blakeman, the Republican candidate aiming for the governor’s seat in the state’s upcoming election. Interestingly, his day featured a special guest—former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, who had earlier stopped by the White House and then joined Trump on Air Force One to Syracuse.
During the rally, Trump recognized Tyson, referencing his imposing presence. “I see somebody in the audience that I will never fight, I promise. But I remember when Mike was in his prime, when he was the heavyweight champion of the world. He’d stand in the corner, and his people would all be holding him back. He wanted to kill whoever it was,” Trump remarked, recalling Tyson’s fierce persona. “He was a very dangerous person actually, and he was one of the greatest fighters in history.”
Jokingly, Trump suggested that Tyson was there to provide some muscle for Blakeman. “I see him standing right next to Bruce Blakeman. Bruce wants a little protection; he’s got the right guy. Bruce knows who to stand near,” he quipped.
Eventually, Tyson was invited to the stage. “Thank you very much. I’m just happy to be here with my president, President Trump, and there’s no way in the world I would ever be here if it wasn’t for a president like Donald Trump. Thank you,” Tyson expressed, while Trump looked on appreciatively.
After Tyson stepped off the stage, Trump commented, “I watched him get in the ring many times. He was a scary guy. I think he looks better now than he did 30 years ago. What the hell are you doing, Mike?”
There was also a notable presence from Randy Levine, president of the New York Yankees, who appeared alongside them just days after the team was eliminated during the American League Division Series. Trump lightheartedly addressed the Yankees’ loss, downplaying its significance by saying, “he’s won so much, it’s not going to matter.”
As the campaign heats up, Blakeman aims to unseat Kathy Hochul, who has held the governor’s position since August of 2021.
Interestingly, Trump’s visit to Syracuse came after he changed plans from attending a game in Tuscaloosa due to Hurricane Isaias disrupting those arrangements.
